What To Expect

► Day 01: Ho Chi Minh City to Ben Tre (140 KM)
Avoiding the freeway, we drive to Ben Tre using quiet shortcuts. On the way we stop at the Cu Chi tunnels, an impressive tunnel network that was used by the Vietcong during the Vietnam War, to outwit the American soldiers. In My Tho we visit an incense factory and the impressive Vĩnh Tràng temple complex. In Ben Tre we cook and eat together with the host family at the homestay.

► Day 02: Ben Tre to Tra Vinh (80 KM)
After breakfast we explore Ben Tre by bicycle, so you can see how the locals work and live. You can learn how to make a coconut mat, cut your own coconut candy or taste one of the many Mekong fruits. By fishing boat we take a trip on one of the many canals of the Mekong river. Afterwards we take the motorbikes and ride along the river bank to Tra Vinh for the night, this time in a hotel.

► Day 03: Tra Vinh to Can Tho (100 KM)
In Tra Vinh we find some of the most beautiful Buddhist temples of South Vietnam, made by Cambodians. In the morning we visit some of them before we get back on the motorbike to continue our way. Along the way we have many stops. In Can Tho you have some time for yourself. Have a traditional Vietnamese slow coffee or take a walk along the boulevard while watching the sun sink into the water. In the evening we eat ‘hot pot’ together, the Vietnamese version of fondue.

► Day 04: Can Tho via Rach Gia to Phu Quoc Island (3-4 hours by bus + 2,5 hours by boat)
Early in the morning we visit the floating market of Cai Rang, the largest floating market in South Vietnam, and a rice noodle factory. Afterwards we have breakfast at the hotel and get ready to take you and your luggage to Can Tho bus station. A luxury bus will take you to Rach Gia Port, where you’ll arrive around one o’clock in the afternoon. An hour later you can take the speedboat to Phu Quoc Island, where you can reminisce on the beach about the past days you spent in the Mekong Delta.

Trip from saigon to rach gia-phu quoc
We booked a 4 day trip from saigon to rach gia to take the ferryboat to phu quoc. It was a great experience! Normally I'm not really into motorcycles, but it was the perfect way of transportation for that area. Both of the drivers knew what they were doing. We could chose whether we wanted to ride in the back or ride the motorbike ourselves. We both rode in the back and i would recommend it that way. It's not always easy to ride the vietnamese roads and while in the back you can enjoy the views better.

Thanh and KC took us to nice little cafés with many enjoyable hammocks, to areas with lots of rice fields al gave us a great story about how it all works, to a rice factory, to a nice woman who made very nice bags,...... They told us a lot about de locals and about the area. It was great to meet al the locals and everyone was always exceptionally friendly.
Along the way we stopped by some nice local restaurants to taste different kind of vietnamese foods. And our 2 drivers would make sure we were provided of water or other drinks all the time. They took very good care of us.
They also booked tickets for us on the ferry boat to phu quoc. It was very easy for us that we didn't have to take care of that.
Thanh and KC also teached us a card game they played and vice versa which was the perfect recipe for cozy evenings. It was very nice to get to know both of them.

Saigon - Phu Quoc by motorbike
We booked this tour not knowing what to expect.
We wanted to pass the Mekong Delta but experience it as well. Therefore a tour by motorbike seemed nice. When we first arrived in Hanoi and saw the chaotic traffic there I instantly had to think about the trip we booked. Was this safe? Would we ever make it without accidents?

I was a bit anxious at first, but after a couple minutes of driving I got a nice comforting feeling. These guys really know what they're doing and the responsibility they have riding with tourists.
This was only the beginning!
As soon as we left Saigon we left the big busy roads and headed down smaller more enjoyable roads. Very friendly people, endless rice fields.
Every stop we did was learning. From the short stop explaining how the land was used and rice was grown to the families to made rice paper of it.
The time they were our guides was the same time they were our friends. We could basically ask them anything!
As soon as I told them we wanted to get to Phu Quoc they immediately responded whether we needed ferry tickets or anything. Helpful from to beginning to the very end!

If there's one thing you should know about these guys it sure is this;
You don't just book transport from A to B. You book a trip through land, culture and history.
