Mekong Delta is More Than Just a Destination

First we need to know, what is the Mekong Delta; The Mekong Delta is a network of rivers in southwestern Vietnam, between Ho Chi Minh City and Cambodia. The river itself starts in the Himalayas and passes through China, Myanmar, Thailand and Cambodia before reaching Vietnam, which partly explains why the waters are so murky. More than half of Vietnam’s rice and fish comes from the delta region. It’s vital to the Vietnamese economy and region is also called the belly of Vietnam..

Life in the area revolves around water, from the famous floating markets to the vast agricultural industries. An amazing variety of fruits, flowers and livestock grow in the region. The Mekong River Delta is the rice basket of Vietnam, providing the sustenance for millions.

Luxury in the Mekong

There are lots of cheap homestays / hostels / hotels in the Mekong but if you are willing to spend a little more, then the Island Lodge is truly fantastic. Its only 2 hrs from Saigon but feels a world away - hidden amongst the trees. As soon as you arrive, you feel yourself relaxing. The rooms are beautiful, the food is excellent, the swimming pool looks out to the Mekong and you can easily spend a day sitting there with a book, eating complimentary breads/cakes that are freshly baked in the kitchen. The owners are wonderful and their team are all welcoming. Go stay there!

Excellent small luxury hotel

The hotel is set on the Mekong Delta in a beautiful location. We were only booked for a one night stay and we wish we could have stayed longer - excellent hotel, excellent staff, excellent service, excellent food in a fantastic location! A perfect hotel to relax and unwind with excellent food and some great cocktails and wine. We hope to return very soon.
